It's taken four years, but I added that interesting piece to the article today. Though I left out the assumption that they were prostitutes, leaving the explanation up to each reader. SilkTork✔Tea time10:34, 12 June 2017 (UTC)reply
Without the explanation, the reader is left to wonder why. The source cited gives the explanation. I've added it. - SummerPhDv2.013:40, 12 June 2017 (UTC)reply
External links modified
Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on
Wimpy (restaurant). Please take a moment to review
my edit. If necessary, add {{
cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{
nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

One of the unique features of Wimpy burgers in Britain and Ireland during the 1970s was the inclusion of a generous sprig of watercress. There was enough of the stuff to qualify it as a burger ingredient rather than as a mere garnish.

Wimpy in the Netherlands
When I was 10 I ate at the Wimpy restaurant in Amsterdam both in June and early August 1969 so at least one Dutch restaurant operated at least then. This page has a photo of it that looks to have a couple of cars that might be newer than 1969 and text that indicates that there were numerous Wimpy restaurants in the Netherlands in 1969. I think it would be best to remove any claims that Wimpy exited the Netherlands in 1969.
Can anyone add information other than the corporate history, such as what was served on the menu, characteristics of the restaurants, any cultural significance, etc?

I used Wimpys in the UK in the 60s and 70s. They were an awkward blend of traditional British cafe/cafeteria culture and American diners. Wimpy was perceived as a British brand despite its American origins, and never seemed to 'get it'. Wimpys were popular for a while because there were few other options - UK casual dining was a bleak experience back then. Once American franchises like McDonald's started to appear Wimpy suffered a collapse in trade and branches started to close or rebrand. They were a very rare sight by the late 80s. --
