Cite for the "Bothell – Everett Highway" part in the lead? (It's not cited anywhere else)
Per
WP:LEAD, can we cut down on these citations here? (Can you remove the citations that are cited later anyway? If it isn't cited later, don't remove the ref :])
SR 527 was part of the Pacific Highway, also known as State Road 1 in the 1920s,[4] before it became U.S. Route 99 (US 99). The highway that is SR 527 today became part of Secondary State Highway 2A (SSH 2A) in 1937,[5] which was created at the time the rest of the system was created.[5] The current route of SR 527, from Bothell to the newer alignment of the Pacific Highway/US 99, was dropped from SSH 2A in 1943,[6] and was readded as SSH SJ in 1957,[7] which existed until 1964, when a highway renumbering occurred, which created SR 527.[2] The highway itself didn't fully open until October 17, 1969,[8] and since the opening, the highway has become increasingly busy, with about 57,000 motorists using the highway at the interchange with I-405 in 2004.[9] A large construction project started in 1991 and ended in 2006 to widen the highway and put up sound walls along the highway.[10]
The article needs a through copy-edit before I can pass it; there are numerous grammatical errors... (i.e. "From the intersection, SR 527 runs northwest to Canyon Park Place, where after intersecting 228th Street SE, the highway has a partial cloverleaf interchange with I-405.[14]") Maybe one of the members of the
Guild of Copy-editors could help?
Any way to copy-edit it? I'm not comfortable passing this with these basic errors...a run through (may not be complete):
"SR 527 runs north 11.92 miles (19.18 km) from SR 522 in the city of Bothell, through an interchange with I-5, and ends at SR 99, and SR 526 in Everett." I might have killed this sentence with an earlier edit, I don't remember
"WSDOT has found that about 46,000 motorists utilize the road daily at the I-405..." at the I-405? The 405 what?
"From the intersection, SR 527 runs northwest to Canyon Park Place, where after intersecting 228th Street SE, the highway has a partial cloverleaf interchange with I-405.[9]" Read this sentence out loud, and you'll see that it doesn't sound right
"..."intersects 164th Street SE, a major arterial, ..." What is an 'arterial'? Is that a word?
"...the road goes north past the Mill Creek Town Center and the Mill Creek Library and Library Park before intersecting a connector to SR 96 westbound.[11]" and, and, and, and. :D what connector? (give me a (insert number here))
"After the short intersection..." I've never seen a 'short' intersection!
"...goes north to the Eastmount Park and Ride, where the road goes northwest to an interchange with I-5 and then to an intersection with SR 99, SR 526, and Broadway, where the road ends." again, read this aloud.
"The road continues west from the intersection as SR 526, also known as the Boeing Freeway, and goes west to the Boeing Everett Factory, Paine Field, and goes towards Mukilteo.[15] SR 99 goes south from the intersection to the Everett Mall, Seattle, and Fife.[16] An extension of SR 99, Broadway, goes north from the intersection into Downtown Everett.[17]" Do these sentences have anything to do with Rt. 527??
"SR 527 became a state highway during the 1964 highway renumbering, in which the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)..." Maybe "SR 527 became a state highway during the 1964 highway renumbering. During this time, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)..."?
"...but eventually, the highway became overcrowded, ..." try "but the highway eventually became overcrowded..."
"The first stage involved widening the roadway to five-seven lanes between 228th Street SE and SR 524 and minor improvements at the interchange with I-405." What? Okay. "The first stage of the construction..." is a better beginning, but what does the "widening" to "SR 524" part mean?!? (widened from five to seven lanes? widened to five lanes (at this part) and seven lanes (at this different part of the road)?
"The third stage widened the road between 164th Street SE to SR 96.[24]" Try "The third stage widened SR 527 between the 164th Street SE junction and the SR 96 junction." It clarifies it a bit.
"SR 522's eastbound lanes going out of Bothell towards Monroe were closed for repaving and with SR 522 handling about 38,000 motorists daily in that area,[7] extra travelers used a 6 miles (9.7 km) detour using SR 527 and then I-405.[27]" Maybe this instead: "SR 522's eastbound lanes going out of Bothell towards Monroe were closed for repaving. SR 522 had been handling about 38,000 motorists daily in that area,[7] and travelers were forced to take a 6 mile detour using SR 527 and I-405.[27]"
BTW, is this part even necessary? "SR 522 had been handling about 38,000 motorists daily in that area..."
The Washington State Legislature recently passed HB1520
[1] which removed a significant portion of the highway and turned it over to the City of Bothell. This page therefore needs to be updated, especially by those more familiar than I with state highway wikipages. --RoninBKTC11:36, 5 May 2011 (UTC)reply
