Our article is a pretty good start, but since I, a professional geologist with some experience in hydrocarbons, was struggling a bit to understand it, it's fair to say that a non-technical reader is going to be wondering what the hell this is all about. Interesting subject, does need work. One thing that would help would be to explain more about the way reflectance is measured. e.g. Is it diffuse or specular? What spectral band and/or wavelength is used? --
