I'd like to point out that this article has very little content. It is limited to a two-line sentence, followed only by a depository of results. The article (obviously) fails to assert the relevance of this relatively old, short-lived tournament — its short existence itself works against the assertion of any relevance. The way I see it, this is a borderline case for speedy deletion under the criterion A1 at
WP:CSD. Regards,

The article should stay, as it was disputed by important Brazilian teams, like Flamengo, Corinthians, Internacional, Atlético Mineiro, Coritiba and others, which make it notable enough to deserve its own article. Regards,

I'm not sure that this would be sufficient to justify the article. Then again, it could be possible to expand it. In fact, if my "mental timeline" serves me well, the end of this tournament seems to coincide with the inception of the National Championship (Campeonato Brasileiro). If that's correct, this tournament could be perceived as some kind of predecessor to the present Championship. And if that's the case, perhaps it would be a better step to merge what's in here with the main article on the Brazilian Championship, making it a section over there. This article simply has no content — considering that a list of match results alone cannot substitute actual content, and, as I said, there's only a two-line sentence in the article besides those results.

Hi. The Campeonato Brasileiro and the Torneio do Povo started in the same year, 1971, so, the Torneio do Povo is not some kind of predecessor of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Also, the Torneio do Povo ended in 1973, the same year of the Braisleirão's third edition. So, it is not correct to merge both articles. Anyway, the Campeonato Braisleiro article is too big, 32 kilobytes long, so, that article should be splitted in three articles, the Série A, the Série B and the Série C. I added more content to the Torneio do Povo article, and added several references, so, the article is not a two-line article anymore. The Torneio do Povo article, then, should not be deleted or merged. Regards,

So much for my "mental timeline" :P ... Since it is not a predecessor of the current Championship, and given the work Carioca has already done to improve the contents of the article (good job!), it looks like we can make this work. Here's a suggestion for expanding the contents even further, and this is something I usually do when I'm writting an article about a competition (any sport): we could explain the rules that used to govern the tournament. Even if they were very simple, we should be able to get at least a paragraph out of it. I'd do it, but I know exactly squad about this tournament (I didn't even remember that it once existed). I will, however, get to work on another front that can really help this article: converting the list of results to a table, or board. It should improve the visual layout considerably, making the article more "pleasant" to the reader. I'll be scouting some of our existing boards, on other articles, to see which could work better here.
