A fact from Tomás Treviño de Sobremonte appeared on Wikipedia's
Main Page in the Did you know column on 1 May 2024 (

Did you know... that when offered a chance to repent before being burnt at the stake, one crypto-Jew allegedly told his tormentors to "throw more wood on the fire"?

... that when offered to repent before being burnt at the stake, one crypto-Jew allegedly told his tormentors to 'throw more wood on the fire'? Source:
https://www.jstor.org/stable/4467073 "Tomas Treviño de Sobremonte: A Jewish Mexican Martyr" by Seymour B. Liebman. Text to support: "A contemporary, Gregorio M. de Guijo, recorded in his diary that even during the march to the stake on 14 April 1649, there were "no words of condemnation of Tremiño" (sic).' He added that the onlookers of the parade were left with admiration when Tomas refused to kiss the cross. His refusal denied him the privilege of garrote (a speedier, less painful, death) and, consequently, he was burned alive. In the publication of De Guijo's diary, Manuel Romero de Torreros wrote that Treviño exclaimed as the flames licked at his body, "Throw on more wood, this [fire] is costing me enough money." page 63.
https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctv47w8sq.9?seq=80 chapter "El siglo de integración" from "Historia general de México" by Andrés Lira, Luis Muro (in Spanish). Translation by Jaguarnik: "Famed was the execution of 1648, in which one of the condemned, Tomás Treviño de Sobremonte, condemned to die at the stake for not having repented or "reconciled" - as the great majority usually did - said to the executioner, after resisting the Franciscan friar who exhorted him to think of the salvation of his soul - "throw more [wood] on, for it costs me my money." page 450.

Comment: open to rewordings of the hook because it's a bit long and awkward, but I can't think of a better way to phrase it. If possible, I'd like it to be featured on 14 April, the day of Treviño's execution, but it's not necessary.
I like this! Article is eligible, in good shape (I'd lengthen that lede a sentence or two though), and I see no evidence of copyvio. QPQ not needed. The hook is good as-is, but I think it could be improved by rephrasing the end to "allegedly told his tormentors to 'throw more wood on the fire'?
