The result of the move request was: consensus that the current name isn't correct. I've provisionally moved it to
The Rangers (British battalion) as at least a more strictly correct version. No prejudice against immediate renomination to achieve consensus on an appropriate title. --

Rename as
The Rangers (volunteers). The new regiment, although formally called the Ranger Regiment, will undoubtedly be known as the Rangers, so changed disambiguation is necessary. But I think this is better than dates, although if others disagree I would support the use of dates rather than the current title. Also, it wasn't really ever a regiment in its own right. --

Comment I agree with Necrothesp that some rename will be necessary, and that the dates in the title is not the best option. I'm not certain what the best option is. My interim suggestion would be
The Rangers (British regiment, est. 1860) but I'm sure that's not in line with policy.
