'Duke of Villars'

Concerning Villars, it is presently asserted in this article, that he was a duke. This is done off the basis of Benedict, where I have just checked that it does indeed say that Villars was the duke of Villars.

However, the title duke of Villars was created in 1627 for Georges de Brancas [ fr who was a brother of the Villars we are concerned with in this article (André). I have variously seen our Villars referred to as a 'seigneur' 'marquis' and 'Admiral', in other works. Therefore it seems that Benedict has made a mistake on this count, and we should include a note about his assertion on that count. sovietblobfish ( talk) 15:17, 9 July 2023 (UTC) reply
