This article was renamed from Siddapur, Uttara Kannada with the statement that this was a spelling correction. This is unjustified, since Siddapura is the correct transliteration of the name. In terms of web usage, Google books shows 5 results for Siddapura, Uttara Kannada, vs 3 results for Siddapur, UK. Google web searches for the same terms are in favour of Siddapura by 102k to 88k. Hence this article should be renamed in accordance with naming policy.

There are many towns with name Siddapur/a. So the Google search is not the yardstick for determining the spelling. This one is commonly written as "Siddapur" locally. Do not stereotype all names. You are aware that one should use Common English names on Wikipedia and not transliteration of the name. Kindly note that your edits are eligible for revert and will be done so.

(adding) Imc, you had moved this page a few months back from "Siddapur, Uttara Kannada" to "Siddapura, Uttara Kannada". Any reason you did not initiate a discussion before moving this page?

Requested move

Oppose There are many places with names Siddapur/ Siddapura in India. So a Google search of Siddapur/Siddapura will include all possible results including the closest word match. When you have multiple places with similar names, then Google search becomes unreliable to make decisions. "Siddapur" is the correct spelling as used by locals and people around. Do not move this page solely on the basis of Google search.

It is a lot more reliable a method than depending on someone saying "Siddapur" is the correct spelling as used by locals and people around. and who reverts other people's reasoned edits with a edit note saying it is vandalism. Especially when that someone thinks that the Kannada 'ಸಾರರ' is pronounced 'sagar' (
[1]).

Comment - google web searches with disambiguations (which were used above as well so as to limit false positives), within inverted commas, 86k – 2k in favour of Siddapura, Karnataka, see
[2] against
[3].

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.
Relisting comment: Some evidence is needed, because contested assertions will just lead to this discussion being closed as no consensus. If there is no consensus, the page should revert to the last stable title, which was
Siddapura, Uttara Kannada
Please note that this page was unilaterally moved to Siddapura, Uttara Kannada earlier by user Imc without initiating a discussion. See the users' log dated January 29, 2011.

Yes, this is correct, I moved it without discussion. As it was an uncontroversial move then , there is absolutely nothing wrong with that - see
WP:TITLECHANGES. When a move is contested then it should be requested at
WP:RM, as it says at
WP:TITLECHANGES. To raise such discussions was pretty much the first communication that I made to you - see
[4], now deleted. You ignored it and carried on making similar moves unilaterally, resulting in this current situation.

Comment - to further explain what has been demonstrated in the searches above and at the corresponding page
Siddapur Taluk, the searches have been made with disambiguations to restrict them to this particular name of this place and taluk. So the searches do show that the commonest usages for this town and the taluk are 'Siddapura'. The fact that multiple other places exist with similar names might cause some noise in the results, but the evidence clearly points to the old stable version. The original reason given for moving these to Siddapur was 'spelling correction', not that it was the common standard form.

I got to work on this article, and about halfway through it became clear that this might need to be completely rewritten - particularly because the article is crowded with lists and reads more like a travel guide. I've placed more appropriate tags. Let me know if I can be of any assistance with this effort!

And once again, revert move. User Panpahe, please note the established consensus and review the guidance on when you may or may not move an article without discussion.
