In the article, it says Scizor's japanese name is a pun on the Japanese word for scissors (which is hasami). Well, I actually don't think this is so, because in japanese the verb hasamu, which more resembles hassamu than hasami, means to clip/snip, or to cut off, which is an ability scizor obviously has (cutting is associated with the pokemon). So the mini ツ, or the extra s, was added in there to modify this verb into a name (that's what I'm thinking). Even if you were to stick with hasami, another meaning for the word in Japanese is claw or a pincer, which I think fits more or just as much as scissors. Still, hasamu seems to be the more accurate choice.
