• San Luis, The Oldest Town in Colorado @ fortunecity.com

Three dates in the spring of 1851 are given:

• Costilla County gives Saturday, April 5, 1851, as the date of establishment. This may be the date of the first construction of the villages.
• Sangres.com gives Wednesday, April 9, 1851, as the official date of establishment. This may be the date of some sort of proclamation when the first homes became habitable.
• FortuneCity.com gives Saturday, June 21, 1851 as the date of dedication. This is said to be the Fiesta de San Luis, the patron saint of the community.

I see April 9, 1851, cited most commonly as the date of establishment, but there was obvious activity in the area both before and after this date. Yours aye, Buaidh ( talk) 18:33, 6 July 2010 (UTC) reply
