Image:SAFRAN.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under
fair use but there is no
explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the
boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with
fair use.
Please go to
the image description page and edit it to include a
fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at
Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on
criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the
Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Move?

I don't see the problem with spelling a word the way the company does. We have many other articles like that aren't acronyms, many of them French companies. So a guideline has more weight than a company;s on preference? So why we have
eBay, and not
Ebay? Is "eBay" not a trademark too? (I don't think it's an acronym.) The guidelines are inconsistent on this, giving preference to some styles over others. My prefernce is still
SAFRAN. Hopefully wil get a consensus on this one way or the other. Also,
Safran Group is probably a better alternative than
Safran (firm), though theterm is not quite as common as "SAFRAN" on their site. -

Also the guidelines are not inconsistance relating to eBay because it is covered by a specific exception in the MOSTM. Trademarks beginning with a one-letter lowercase prefix pronounced as a separate letter do not need to be capitalized if the second letter is capitalized, but should otherwise follow normal capitalization rules. ebay is even used as an example. SAFRAN is not covered in this specific exception so the naming of ebay is irrelevant to this discussion. To get this moved you will either need to prove that this is an acronym, is pronounced as a as seires of letters like
MCI or get a consensus at the
WP:MOSTM talkpage to capitilis the names of comapnaies if they do so though I highy doubt there will be a consensus for that. --

All that is needed to override a guideline is a consensus here. Looks liek that won't happen, but I had to try. Yes, Apple I know, "Again, see
WP:MOSTM." Screw the guideline - it's STUPID. -

Oppose per
MOS:TM. We don't bow to trademark owners wanting to circumvent standard English. If you see other articles that violate this, nominate them to be moved instead of using them as a reason to have more bad article names. TJSpyke19:24, 26 March 2009 (UTC)reply
Oppose move, yes it's a simple case of MOS:TM. The question of primary meaning is a closer call, I'm sceptical that this really is one. The appeal to other instances is empty without specific examples; Provide these, and maybe we'll review the guideline and/or apply
WP:IAR, but without them the response must be as above: Fix them too.

Oppose per WP:MOSTM. The
General rules section reads "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official": avoid: REALTOR®, TIME, KISS; instead, use: Realtor, Time, Kiss." The title does not need a disambiguator either. None of the other entries at
Safran (disambiguation) are only Safran. — AjaxSmack 23:41, 26 March 2009 (UTC)reply
Hmmm, I guess there's a precedent of sorts in
Suzuki. But I'm not convinced... if there were only one town called
Robertson, and all other uses were either qualified by prenames or less notable (or both), I'd still want the disambig to stay at the unqualified name. Hmmm.... are there better examples?

Just to add that there are not many people surnamed Safran and none are particularly famous to the point where significant numbers of users would type "Safran" in the search box expecting to find one of them (in contrast with
Churchill,
Marx, &c.). — AjaxSmack 00:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)reply
