IIRC, the Pionair was a
Rolls-Royce Dart-engined version of the DC-3/C-47/Dakota - the name was a play on Pioneer, as it was one of the first
turboprop airliners, albeit a conversion.
AIUI, Gatow was "head office" for this sigint work and was the airfield used for a number of sigint aircraft, often quite small. However the receiver location was, from the early 1960s, mostly at
Teufelsberg (as the only high ground for miles).
