I removed the "reception"section (preserved below), since it was merely based on a single opinion piece about retro-TV published by io9. I don't think this can serve as an objective measure of the show's popularity at the time of broadcast. ---

One of very many children's animated series of the 1980s, Popeye and Son didn't leave a lasting impression on many viewers. In 2014,
io9 included it in a listing of twelve 1980s cartoons that did not deserve remembrance.[1]
