I quote the following from the main article, section Animal cruelty:
Seen from this point of view, the game consists primarily of Pokémon trainers capturing and bartering in wild animals, coercing them to fight one another.
This section has as a reference the http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/planet0/intpoke.htm link. In other words, the article is using as reference a page hosted in a free host with a little more than 1500 visits. Does the article really need this non notable link? Can't a better one be found? Or just delete the reference, as it is not reliable at all. Otherwise, anyone would get a free account, upload a page, and then use it to backup some opinion in Wikipedia ;-) -- ReyBrujo 06:58, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I think there should be a part in the article that talks about plot holes.
two that I know of is Brocks mother's death, but she is seen in a the episode it is revealed that Brock left his Ludicolo with his family.
The other being that only Psychics can use Psychic Pokémon as mentioned in the episode where Ash goes up against Sabrina, yet many trainers are seen with them, and in a lost episode that was shown during the Johto years, A Girafarig was featured in episode #158 ("The Psychic Sidekicks"). A whole town was seen using Psychic Pokémon, with no apparent Psychic ability. Yami 07:09, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Brock's mother being dead is a dub edit and later inconsistency as they DID dub the specials they weren't expecting to see his mother mentioned in, let alone appearing as a character in. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.116.140.39 ( talk • contribs) .
I'm talking about this part of the article:
Also, when the main theme song for the television show is sung in English, the lyrics “gotta catch ’em all” are alleged to say “I love Satan” or “oh Satan” when played backwards, which is known as “backmasking”. This has left some Christians and Christian organizations believing that Pokémon subliminally encourages Satanism. However, backmasking in general is highly controversial and debatable, leaving room for much skepticism.
I think it is unnecessary and uninformative. In my opinion it should be removed. People have these sorts of stupid conspiracy theories (hidden messages etc.) about all sorts of things. 'Controversial' is understating it; the claim is complete nonsence. Wikipedia can't afford to comment on every stupid belief that people come up with. Karadoc** 10:58, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Is is Electric Soldier Porygon or Computer Soldier Porygon? This article uses both. My extremely poor knowledge of Japanese (and the help of a Japanese dictionary) puts it as "Electric brain Soldier Porygon" (Electric Brain being a common nickname for the computer in Japan), but I'd like a more native Japanese speaker to check (the title in Japanese is "電脳戦士ポリゴン"). smurrayinch ester( User), ( Talk) 21:53, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
The initial paragraph says that Pokemon was created in February 1996. This is not fully accurate. The initial paragraph of this article does reference that Pokemon is derived from the Japense Poketto Monsutā, meaning "Pocket Monsters". Indeed, Pokemon was initially sold in English under the term Pocket Monsters until the (obvious to native English speakers) connotations of that phrase became apparent and the English name was changed in early 1996 from Pocket Monsters to Pokemon. Pokemon was first copyrighted in the United States in 1995. I'm going to add this into the main article and I'd appreciate it if my change was not removed a second time. The article isn't still stable, since certain editors keep shoving paragraphs of the article all over the place. In the Americanization section under Controversy and Criticism the first sentence is documented to source number 21. The first sentence reads: "Both critics and fans of the Pokémon franchise have criticized the apparent Americanization of the franchise, claiming that American companies use Pokémon as a tool to exploit children of their (or their parents’) money". This seems to be a speculation as the source that it is directed from is a Pokemon Crystal game review. In the case that it is speculation, there is plagiarism involved also as a sentence in the game review resembles the first sentence of the Americanization section. The sentence in question reads: "Also, on your way you try to overthrow Team Rocket, a group of evil trainers who want to exploit Pokemon for money". Source 21 This content should be removed to avoid criticism and copyright infringement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Temblor ( talk • contribs)
Can this: "An example of this is and alleged subliminal message in the original pokemon theme song( if you reverse the line "You teach me and I'll teach you" you can make out "We need money, yes we do"" ....honestly be of any importance or vaule to the article? It's one of the most obnoxious things I've ever seen on Wikipedia and if I knew how to do it without taking several hours I'd take it out of every article it's in, except the main Pokemon article. the article claims the pronuciation of pokémon is [ˈpoʊ.keɪ.mɑn]... i would agree with this, as this is the "correct" way to pronounce it in english. although by stating specifically that it is "frequently mispronounced [poʊ.kiˈmæn]," it implies that [ˈpoʊ.keɪ.mɑn] is the absolut correct pronunciation. however, if it is pronounced as it truly would be in Japanese it would actually be transcribed [ˈpo.ke.mon]; no diphthongs and the final /a/ should be /o/. i'm not sure if this should also be mentioned in the article but i just thought it might be important to clarify. -- Samusamu 02:54, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

I mentioned this earlier in an older thread, but I'm saying it again here just to get everyone's attention: since the semi-protection went away a few days ago, vandalism has skyrocketed - and I don't think that's too much of an exaggeration, either. Historically, this article has always attracted a lot of vandals, but nearly all of them are anonymous, unestablished users that are blocked by semi-protection. Granted, semi-protection does turn away the helpful anons too (the history showed at least one helpful edit today), but in my opinion it's much better for the article to stop the vandalism than to just deal with it. We need this thing re-protected. Thoughts? 蜻蛉の目 e.o.t.d 23:43, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

To conform with MOS:IPA, the parenthetical content in the first sentence should be changed to the following:
Pokémon ( Japanese: ポケモン, Hepburn: Pokemon, Japanese pronunciation: ['pokemoɴ]; English: /ˈpoʊkeɪˌmɒn/ POH-kay-MON or /ˈpoʊkɪˌmɒn/ POH-ki-MON)

Please excuse if I approach this wrong, I'm new to wikipedia.
This paragraph under the Cultural Influence section:
"Joseph Jay Tobin theorizes that the success of the franchise was mainly due to the long list of names that could be learned by children and repeated in their peer groups.{citation needed} The rich fictional universe provided a lot of opportunities for discussion and demonstration of knowledge in front of their peers. In the French version Nintendo took care to translate the name of the creatures so that they reflected the French culture and language. In all cases the names of the creatures were linked to its characteristics, which converged with the children's belief that names have symbolic power. Children could pick their favourite Pokémon and affirm their individuality while at the same time affirming their conformance to the values of the group, and they could distinguish themselves from other kids by asserting what they liked and what they didn't like from every chapter. Pokémon gained popularity because it provided a sense of identity to a wide variety of children, and lost it quickly when many of those children found that the identity groups were too big and searched for identities that would distinguish them into smaller groups"
seems to be entirely irrelevant and is purely the conjecture of one man, who no one knows anyway and who has no association with pokemon. As a member of pokemon's key demographic (I was 6 when RBY came out), I feel comfortable saying that the success of the franchise has nothing to do with 'the long list of names', or 'children's belief that names have symbolic power'. This line in particular
"Children could pick their favourite Pokémon and affirm their individuality while at the same time affirming their conformance to the values of the group, and they could distinguish themselves from other kids by asserting what they liked and what they didn't like from every chapter."
sounds like nonsense that a social scientist is writing just to write something. There's not some complex theory behind why Pokemon is the most successful franchise in the world. It comes down to 3 very simple reasons:
1. people like collecting things 2. people like 'battling' in video games 3. as an RPG, pokemon is very simple to learn but very difficult to master
I feel that this paragraph can simply be removed from the article with no loss in value.

I don't know how to edit wiki, but I wanted to bring to someone's attention that whenever anyone clicks on the link to jump to the "generations" section, it instead opens a Twitter page with a prewritten tweet to send out under your twitter account. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoredWithYatchs ( talk • contribs) 04:47, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
If you try searching Pokemon Wiki on Google without being signed in to Wikipedia, you will see an innocent looking Wikipedia page "Pokémon - Wikipedia" and the url appears fine. However, clicking on any links within the page takes you to an offensive Tweet. Please take time to investigate the person behind this or at least take down the Tweet. The Wikipedia reference (when hovering over links) to the links points to a strange spoofed URL with percentage signs in it. NOTE: This relates to "Links open a Twitter page." I think this page has been vandalized and all the links goes to twitter page.
I am not familiar with wikipedia editing, would appreciate if someone would look at it and fix it.
Thanks

Section:
In addition to the TV series, nineteen Pokémon films have been made, with the pair of films, Pokémon the Movie: Black—Victini and Reshiram and White—Victini and Zekrom considered together as one. A twentieth is also in production. Collectible bonuses, such as promotional trading cards, have been available with some of the films. Various children's books, collectively known as Pokémon Junior, are also based on the anime.[47]
Should say

Start right out by admitting my ignorance. I truly came to this article to learn the basics of Pokemon, knowledge the article fairly successfully conferred to me, but started from YouTube videos, some of which were lists of rare and unusual Pokemon, and was wondering if there should b something in the article about such, @ least rare; unusual might b too subjective. Also realize that those topics might b more appropriate to another article or list, but would very much appreciate instructive feedback if I'm off-base. Slarty1 ( talk) 06:21, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

In the video early in the article, I noticed that the closed captioning had an error.
The error appears to be that an apostrophe symbol has been affected by
Mojibake, specifically, ’
.
There are other, similar errors other than the one I mentioned here.
Should this be fixed?

can i edit this there is a error there i am a ela teacher i should know
The section of the article that explains the name Pokémon incorrectly calls the name a contraction, when it is, instead, a portmanteau. Here is why: "…contractions are formed from words that would otherwise appear together in sequence [usually with an apostrophe], such as do and not to make don't, whereas a portmanteau word is formed by combining two or more existing words that all relate to a singular concept" (source).
Article Reads: "The name Pokémon is the romanized contraction of the Japanese brand Pocket Monsters (ポケットモンスター Poketto Monsutā)."
Should Say: "The name Pokémon is the romanized portmanteau of the Japanese brand Pocket Monsters (ポケットモンスター Poketto Monsutā)."

As per below link /info/en/?search=List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises
should following line be changed as The original video game series is the second best-selling video game franchise (behind Nintendo's Mario franchise)[16] too The original video game series is the third best-selling video game franchise (behind Nintendo's Mario franchise and Super Mario franchise)[16]
Because this page says Mario and Super Mario are different franchises. /info/en/?search=List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raky801 ( talk • contribs) 02:23, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

In one of the paragraphs, it talks about how Pokémon are forced to fight. May I ask for it to be changed, as Pokémon are not forced to fight, most willingly do so. Only cruel Trainers force them to without thinking about their needs. Please do so soon, as such simple wording can cause huge misunderstandings. -- SonicFishies ( talk) 17:25, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
