did he go by his middle name from the gitgo, or is that a stage name? since his father was also named james ("jim"), i can see a case for the former, but otherwise for a performer like this, one would assume the latter.
any early appearances in the quarrymen, etc., where he actually went by "james"?
In Tune In, Lewisohn writes: "Jim and Mary named him James Paul—the first from Jim, the second, maybe, from Jim's grandad, Paul Clegg (c. 1815–79). To avoid the kind of confusion common in many households, they called him by his middle named." (p.34). Tkbrett (✉)13:40, 13 April 2024 (UTC)reply

"Paul und sein Bruder Mike gehörten zu den ersten britischen Schülern, die vom Education Act 1944, dem Gesetz, das auch Unterprivilegierten größere Bildungschancen ermöglicht, profitierten."
that is, according to www.deepl.com:
"Paul and his brother Mike were among the first British pupils to benefit from the Education Act 1944, the law that gave underprivileged people greater educational opportunities."
The source is given as:
"Paul Muldoon: Einleitung von Paul Muldoon. In: Paul McCartney: Lyrics. 1956 bis heute. Hrsg. mit einer Einleitung von Paul Muldoon. Aus dem Englischen übersetzt von Conny Lösche. C. H. Beck, München 2021, ISBN 978-3-406-77650-2, S. XXVI–XXXI, hier: S. XXVI."
English:
"Paul Muldoon: Introduction by Paul Muldoon. In: Paul McCartney: Lyrics. 1956 until today. Edited with an Introducion of Paul Muldoon. Translated from English by Conny Lösche. Publisher: C. H. Beck, München 2021, ISBN 978-3-406-77650-2, S. XXVI–XXXI, hier: S. XXVI."
I wonder why this is "not known/shown" in the english version?
It seems a bit odd that two named individuals are singled out like that? If Liverpool got in first in some way, that ought to be added as an explanation. Otherwise, surely all state-educated pupils benefited in the same way, at the same time?

Image Change
Can we get a new header image? We got an upgrade on John Lennon's, and that was in February. There are better shot, cleaner images out there that would work just as well as the current one. 07:32, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
