Is a patriarchal blessing really an ordinace? I guess since you need a reccomend the title may fit, but I still am not sure if that is the best word.- John Pack Lambert —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnpacklambert ( talk • contribs) 19:17, 26 April 2007
While there are many cases with parents having separate lineage from children and vice versa, it is because the tribes were so interelated that when you are given your lineage you are only told your dominant tribe lineage. Everybody has a little of everything in them. Emeraldstone ( talk) 01:11, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Page currently says, "...every Latter-day Saint father that holds the Melchizedek Priesthood can pronounce blessings upon one of his children or his spouse as necessary...The Church encourages families to create their own records of these blessings...." but doesn't reference it. I'd like to see a reference for this (I'm not questioning giving the blessing, just the recording portion of the sentence). CsikosLo ( talk) 15:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Just a friendly reminder that Wikipedia talk pages are not forums. Some of the things that have been mentioned do relate to improving the article, but when you write them make sure you are focused on improving the article and not just asking advice! :) Darkage7 ( talk) 08:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure why this article mentions "The Community of Christ"? They broke off from the Mormon Church years ago. It doesn't make sense to include a bit about them, and more specifically to say that they are part of the "Mormon movement". Anyone who doesn't know anything (or very little) about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints could easily be misled into thinking that modern Mormons ordain women to be priests or that the Community of Christ is also LDS. 96.51.149.15 ( talk) 04:48, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
The section concerning the evangelist blessing in the Community of Christ (CofC) has been expanded, explaining that it is a sacrament in the CofC, That it can be given to members and non-members, that it is not only for individuals, and that an evangelist blessing can be received more than once. Some of the information that was here before was either partial or false. MichaelBotts ( talk) 15:07, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Keeping in accordance with the advice of Jgstokes in Talk "Community of Christ - not relevant to this artice": "And since both [LDS and Community of Christ] have the concept of "patriarchal blessings," different terminology though they may use, this article can and should rightfully include all churches in the Latter Day Saint movement that espouse the doctrine and practice of patriarchal blessings, including the LDS Church and the Community of Christ.", it makes sense that there is only one article for this subject and not two, one for each church.
For this reason the lines in the lede have been edited to include only the common practices in both churches. The differences between the practices of the two churches for the blessing omitted in the intro are explained in the according sections of the article.
The only difference omitted from the lede that is not in the repective sections deals with the blessing being an ordinance in the LDS church. This has been restated in the LDS section. (The blessing being a sacrament in the Community of Christ is already listed in that section.) MichaelBotts ( talk) 20:39, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
