Oppose the merger. Ottoman Syria refers not only to Syria Vilayet, but also to other Vilayets (e.g. Aleppo Vilayet, Beirut Vilayet) and to previous administrative units (
Eyalet) as well (Tripoli, Rakka, Acre, Damascus, Aleppo).

Oppose mostly per Amr. Ottoman Syria is an unofficial and broad term that includes several different vilayets, mutasarrifates and eyalets from different periods of Ottoman rule. This article certainly needs a lot of work though. --

I have removed this text "In 1586, the
Eyalet of Raqqa was established in eastern Syria. It lasted until the Egyptian invasion in 1831 and included
Eyalet of Raqqa ([] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: no text (

Urfa, Sanjak of
Marash, Sanjak of Dayr Rahba, Sanjak of Khabour, Sanjak of Jamasa and Sanjak of Bani Rabi'a.".
Under the section 1872-1918 there is an entry 'Damascus Vilayet'. There never was such a unit. There was a
Damascus Eyalet which was renamed to 'Syria Vilayet' in 1867. I propose that the 1872-1918 name 'Damascus Vilayet' be changed accordingly to 'Syria Vilayet'@
