Separate Wikipedia article for the 15 December 2018 unification council?
Would it not be better to create a separate Wikipedia article for the 15 December 2018 unification council? All this information now in this Wikipedia article about this one day event makes the article hard to read and too lengthy for me.... — Yulia Romero •

Yes, but not yet. It's too fresh.

Indeed so: for instance, the ru-wiki has a pretty well elaborated entry on this topic, not to mention the Ukrainian entry, of course. So, this looks like a timely and legitimate move,--and thanks for doing this!--

Needs discussion per the existence of articles such as
Orthodox Church of France, and the fact that both "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" and "Ukrainian Orthodox Church" seem to be commonly used.

It is the official name of the church in its charter (see the article) and in its tomos[1], just like the
Church of Greece and the
Church of Cyprus. Moreover, it helps to differenciate from the
Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Besides, the expression "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" is widely used.[2][3][4] Lastly, "Ukrainian Orthodox Church" is only allowed as it has been precised in the article by a bishop of the OCU. "per the existence of articles such as
Orthodox Church of France" I do not get what you mean.

I reject the proposal to change its name for the reasons mentioned above.--

I noticed the problem cited by Certes in
Kievan chant, and made
Ukrainian Orthodox Church a redirect to this article, with a hatnote here pointing to the disambiguation page. I hope that this solution will satisfy everyone. —

All of those links led to the same place:
History of Christianity in Ukraine until December 2018, since when the target has oscillated between
Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the disambiguation page. I expect some of them should lead to UOC-MP instead. Normally in such cases I go through the links and can quickly divert most of them to an obviously correct target, but here I don't know which links intend the UOC-MP and will have to hope that subject experts can fix them.

My edit to
Ukrainian Orthodox Church has been reverted by
TheTexasNationalist99 with an irate edit summary that reads "THIS HAS NOT BEEN DECIDED TO REDIRECT THE ARTICLE. Stop with the BIASED NONSENSE." After reading
History of Christianity in Ukraine I understood better the whole situation regarding the UOC-MP. Maybe the redirect should have "History..." as its target again, as it did for the last 7 and a half years. —

It pesters me how since this has happened, the West is confusing Orthodoxy with a centralized, Bartholomewic papal structure, and the history of Christianity in Ukraine. It should be left to the history article or the disambiguation.
TheTexasNationalist99 (

A major problem right now is that the disambiguation page is poorly done. From reading it, one would think that no Orthodox Church existed in Ukraine at all until 1924. Unfortunately, the linked articles are not much help, because there are multiple of these churches that claim to be the "original" Ukrainian Orthodox Church going back 500 years. This whole situation needs to be blown up and rebuilt from scratch, but pointing "Ukrainian Orthodox Church" to the disambiguation page is neither permissible nor helpful.

Comment. Having in mind the complexity of all subject related to Eastern Orthodoxy in Ukraine, it seems to me that titles like
Orthodox Church of Ukraine and
Ukrainian Orthodox Church should not be used as article titles or redirects, since several church bodies are using the same nomenclature. Therefore it would be best to use those titles for disambiguation pages. That solution would be neutral, and quite useful, since it would fix several problems. And in regard to the title of this particular article, it might be moved to
Orthodox Church of Ukraine (2018) or something like that, since that particular church body was created in 2018, and this article clearly covers only the period since 2018. That is quite a narrow scope, and it should be reflected in the title. This is not a general article on Eastern Orthodoxy in Ukraine, and therefore current title should be adjusted to reflect the particular subject of its contents.

romfea.gr not a reliable source financed by the Moscow Patriarchate, i.e. the kremlin//OrthodoxTimes
Pursuant to the request by
Veverve on my TalkPage, I repeat my comments regarding the publication posted on OrthodoxTimes web site titled Name of Patriarch of Alexandria was removed from Diptychs of Moscow Patriarchate that purports to cover the decision by the Standing Synod of the ROC of 26 December 2019 dealing with the ROC′s reaction to the recognition of the OCU by the Patriarchate of Alexandria at the start of November: While I normally have no issue with their publications, this particular piece was obviously written hastily and in a sloppy way, without even properly reading the decision of the ROC Synod. First, the article contains some factual errors: "Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate in Alexandria into a Russian church" -- even the Synod′s decision itself clearly says the ROC representation is in Cairo (see
http://www.rusmissionafrica.com/basic-page/raspolozhenie-hrama.html ) and of course it is already a church, now to be also a parish. Secondly, "to make them stauropegic monasteries" is also wrong, which is probably due to the fact that the authors do not know that the ROC has such thing as stauropegic parishes (патриаршие подворья), bizarrely, a lot of them in Moscow itself. In fact, the synodal decision does not change anything much of substance as all the parishes (churches) in question (a handful in fact, mostly in Morocco) had always been in effect directly under Moscow run as they were by the Directorate for overseas establishments (
http://www.patriarchia.ru/uzu/ ). The name of the Patriarch of Alexandria had been commemorated, just out of courtesy. Besides, the article oddly refers to Legoida a multiple times without any good reason. We now have a formal
decision by the Holy Synod, which is, in and of itself, perfectly perspicuous. The article also contains a highly confused and confusing sentence: "He [Legoida] added that the Moscow Patriarchate had not severed full communion with the Archbishop of Athens and the Metropolitans of the Church of Greece either". Veverve has been kind enough to explain the issue with Legoida, which confirms my suspicion that the piece was written in haste, apparently before the official publication of the resolution. By saying this I am not impeaching the credibility of OrthodoxTimes, which I think is Ok for covering the Greek sources/Churches, the only quibble being their poor English.

"The council voted to unite the existing Ukrainian Orthodox jurisdictions: the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP), the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) and a part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP)."
Which part of the UOC-MP did they want? or rather, should this say "The council, which included all hierarchs of the UOC-KP and the UAOC, and some hierarchs of the UOC-MP, voted to unite" or something to that effect.--
Richardson mcphillips (

The goal de jure was to unite the three Orthodox churches of Ukraine, hence the current formulation. However, de facto only a small fraction of the members of the UOC-MP participated in the council.

Reactions sections
Don't the reacts to the declaration of autocephaly belong on an article on that topic? It seems to me that this article should just have which Eastern Orthodox churches recognize the church and which don't, not "reactions". It's been a number of years now and a church is not an event.--
