![]() | A news item involving Mohammed Waheed Hassan was featured on Wikipedia's Main Page in the In the news section on 7 February 2012. | ![]() |
The "Early Life" section starts with: He is the son of Jeff Carvalho and Kenny Pacheco - the capital of the Republic of Maldives. What exactly does that mean? As someone who is not familiar with the topic I have no idea what this implies, more detail needs to be added to explain. TonyStarks ( talk) 19:07, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Very embarressing to put this article into the News on the Home Page with such poor quality. I have adjusted a few things I felt competant to do, but oh, its poor:

That is the correct spelling of the name, Mohamed. relisted-- Mike Cline ( talk) 20:11, 17 February 2012 (UTC) - ℤiαηsh ✍ 12:49, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
About half of this article was directly copy-pasted from an external website, so I removed it. The content needs to be rewritten if we're going to use it, but someone restored it today. Don't restore a copyvio, please. Everyking ( talk) 00:06, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

There is no citation for "referred by most maldivians as baghee" 115.84.150.137 ( talk) 11:45, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I notice that throughout this article we refer to MWH as "Waheed". However, the NYT [1] and BBC [2] both appear to use "Hassan" as the short form. Is anyone familiar with Maldivian naming conventions that can explain if Waheed is the preferred formal way to describe him for any reason? I'll change this in the next few days if no one tells me otherwise. Thanks, Khazar2 ( talk) 23:23, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Since this has been tagged as needing citations for more than a month without significant improvement, I'm trying to give this one a major overhaul, aggressively deleting all unsourced information. Much of this article was literally cut-and-pasted from Waheed Hassan's campaign materials, and other unsourced claims both for and against him abounded.
All that said, if you feel I've removed appropriately sourced information in error, please don't hesitate to reintroduce it or to discuss the changes with me here. I'm not an expert in Maldivian politics and am prone to mistakes in any case! Khazar2 ( talk) 02:01, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Education of Waheed Disputed -
Apparently Mohamed Waheed Hassan is NOT the first person to hold a PhD in Maldives!! Someone please research on this one. There are sother Maldivian, Dr. Abdul Rasheed, MD, and Dr. Mohamed Ali, who have apparently been awarded a PhD long time before Waheed got his. This is what I found - http://www.maldivesroyalfamily.com/maldives_poems.shtml Scroll down to Departure Overseas and its there.... Since someone else is claiming that he is the first to get a PhD from Columbia Pacific Hospital in San Rafael California, and somewhere else maybe the article here should reflect that at the least or do some research on that.
- Education of Waheed Disputed -
Now Wikipedia on Vice Presidents of Maldives under the heading "First Elected Vice President" cites "Dr. Waheed was the senior most Maldivian in the United Nations when he retired from it in June 2008, in order to return to the Maldives and become politically active. While in the UN, Dr. Waheed was the head of UNICEF for South Asia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Turkmenistan. After Dr. Abdul Rasheed, and Dr. Mohamed Ali (koli), Dr. Waheed was the third Maldivian to receive a PhD having done so from the prestigious Stanford University, having specialized in International Development". When I clicked on the source link, guess where it lead me to....the home page of Waheed!! Therefore the fact that Waheed is the first Maldivian to hold a PhD is now totally unacceptable and unreliable!! There are other Maldivians who are claiming this as well....Please amend article accordingly....
One claim in this article that's proven controversial is Waheed's claim that he has the first PhD granted to a Maldivian citizen. Can those disputing this claim provide sources from reliable media? I don't have any strong opinions on this, just going by the sources I've found so far. Cheers, Khazar2 ( talk) 14:45, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi Khazar2
I am working on it. His credentials have been mentioned in a Chicago newspaper. Will try and get it. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aashraf2 ( talk • contribs) 21:51, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

I have read several articles recently confirming there was no coup in Maldives. Looks like Nasheed's fans is hijacking this article. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/world_now/2012/08/no-coup-in-the-maldives-commission-finds-triggering-protests.html http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/maldives-leader-says-hes-not-resigning-after-inquiry-finds-he-came-to-power-without-a-coup/2012/08/31/f4595f92-f352-11e1-b74c-84ed55e0300b_story.html http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/30/us-maldives-president-idUSBRE87T0ZE20120830 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.84.153.114 ( talk) 21:11, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
