But it is a valid topic... I've added an 'unref' banner to highlight your concerns.
As for the external links, it is no worse having links to the few companies that write this software than it is on a digger page have links to digger manufacturers. As long as they are all represented equally, and don't make advertising claims. (Not sure that this is entirely within the letter of
WP:EL, but it is the yardstick I use when testing such links for compliance, as such links are useful on a page that is supposed to be giving complete coverage to a topic.)
