XU Libraries to launch Fr Miguel A Bernad SJ Memorabilia Collection . He has a memorabilia collection and a lecture series named after him, which put him above most faculty members. This man had a very long and productive career. From the webpage:
The XU Libraries maintains the largest collection of Fr Bernad’s mementos. The exhibit will be mounted at the 5th Floor of the Library Annex Building, which will house the Fr Miguel A Bernad SJ Memorabilia Collection.
Fr Bernad passed away on March 15, 2009 at the age of 91. He was a known author, teacher, historian, linguist, editor, journalist and critic. He taught literature at the Ateneo de Manila University where he was the first editor of the Ateneo’s quarterly journal, Philippine Studies. At Xavier University, he founded and became editor of Kinaadman (Wisdom), a journal of scholarly work on Mindanao history, culture, literature and arts.
He was behind two of the most highly respectable journals in Filipino academia: the Philippine Studies of Ateneo de Manila University, today an internationally referred journal of very respectable repute and the Kinaadman Journal of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan which he has edited since 1977 until his valedictory in the summer 2005.
He has also been a member of the Manila critics and the Academia de la Lengua Española.
