Is there any reason the list of books by Foucault is headed "Monographs" rather than "Books"? Note that a later section is called "Other Books" rather than "Other Monographs." Apart from being pretentious, the term is inaccurate when applied to several of Foucault's very wide-ranging, broad examinations of topics like madness, the clinic, punishment, and the history of sexuality. A book-length study of discourse about sexuality and marriage in the 18th Century might well be a monograph. It's one of several topics in one chapter for Foucault. Monographs are precisely not wide-ranging surveys of subject areas.
