I've updated/upgraded the story for this game, and if anyone feels that it should be changed, feel free to do so! -- Yahweh 04:42, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
I noticed you removed the actual number I put in the () after 20XX, but the date of 2012 is actually accurate to the date that this game takes place. If you have read my entries for the other Mega Man games you will see that this makes sense. The original "Mega Man" (1987) takes place in 200X and then "Mega Man 2" takes place a couple months later also in 200X, then "Mega Man 3" takes place six months later in 200X and finally "Mega Man 4" takes place a year later in 20XX and so does 5. Anyhow, that would make the first occurance of 20XX the year 2010 since 200X would take place in the first decade of this century. Thus, going backwards, "Mega Man 3" would take place in 2009 (a year before 4) and then "Mega Man 2" and the original take place in 2008 (which is when Capcom said they took place in). The latest game in the Classic series would be "Rockman & Forte" (1998) which was ported as "Mega Man & Bass" (2002), and that would take place in 2013. Of course, Dr. Light worked on Mega Man X in 2014, which goes along with his discovery by Dr. Cain sometime around the year 2114, 100 years later (as per the copyright on his computer in the original "Mega Man X" for the SNES). Just thought you might find that interesting. -- Yahweh 04:09, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
Well, one thing though that goes into question would be the fact that in "Mega Man X" (SNES) the copyright on Dr. Cain's computer is 2114 AD, which puts the discovery of X sometime either in that year or slightly thereafter (2115 or 2116...). Originally X was only supposed to be sealed up for 30 years, but he ended up being sealed for 100 years, and it was said that X was the final project of Dr. Light, so wouldn't then X have been sealed in 2014 AD? If, then, the date of 2007 you mentioned is official, then 2007-2014 is the timeline of "Mega Man" events? Unless, of course, you wish to go by the logic that just because Dr. Light created "X" that didn't mean that the battle with Wily was over and that his work with Mega Man was incomplete? -- Yahweh 18:23, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
And anyhow, if you think about the fact that "Mega Man 2" says 200X and then, as you say, Mega Man 3 is 20XX, then 20XX must be 2010 or sometime around that date and 200X must then be the late 2000s. Still, I don't remember the date of 20XX showing up story-wise (at least in the manuals with the game) until "Mega Man 5" or MM4, but that's alright. Also, I have not read/heard about the 2007 Nobel Prize for the Robot Master...Where can I read up on that? -- Yahweh 18:36, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
I figured I'd add my on contribution and add the Opening and Ending theme for the japanese version of the game. Sorry If I coulden't get any info on the group that did the two songs
I've started a discussion about including Robot Masters in Mega Man articles at the Video Game project talk page. If you have an opinion, please remark here. Lumaga ( talk) 06:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps it could be possible to mention the fanmade "NES" remake of this game, as the article for Mega Man 7 mentions Rockman 7 FC. 68.4.214.54 ( talk) 23:12, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I ruined it. But on an impulse...you guys can clean it up. Have some breakfast cereal. 67.82.166.6 ( talk) 02:30, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

I'll review this one - it should be done within a day or two.-- Alexandra IDV 04:03, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Upon its release, Capcom reached the franchise's tenth anniversaryfeels like trivia - if there is no further context I would remove it from the lead.
Mega Man discovers that his nemesis Dr. Wily has beaten him there and immediately retreats with the energy source.- I read this as meaning that MM retreats with the energy source, but the next sentence makes it seem like Wily has it. This should be made clearer.
the game was a moderate commercial success and was re-released on best-seller lines in both Japan and North America.- I would cut the word "both" as it makes it seem like those were the only places the game was released in
the robotic herois cute writing, but I would definitely prefer straight-forward, clear language: "he" or "Mega Man"
either in-game or while paused- maybe I have a different definition of "in-game", but to me it is definitely still in-game even if it is in the pause menu. Something like "while playing or while the game is paused" might work. Or maybe the fact that you can do it both ways is trivial enough that it doesn't need to be mentioned.
Enemies in each stage can be destroyed- does "in each stage" add anything?
to tackle in any order he or she chooses- at first I was going to suggest singular they as smoother writing, but then I realized that you can just end the sentence after "in any order".
A noteworthy addition to gameplay- It is not our place to say that something is noteworthy to the reader, we can just make the note without commenting out it, so: change to "An addition"
The player also has the ability to use his Mega Buster at all times,- I'm assuming "his" refers back to Mega Man, but on first reading I interpreted it as referring to the player. Would recommend changing "his" to "the".
Auto's part shop from the last game also appears in the form of Dr. Light's lab, where the player can buy new abilities from Roll in exchange for special bolts found throughout the levels.- I have not played MM7 or MM8, so: is Auto still involved in the shop in this game? If not, I would just simplify it and say "The player can buy new abilities from Roll in Dr. Light's lab in exchange for [...]"
Special power-ups involving Mega Man's dog Rush are won by fighting mid-stage minibosses.- does "special" add anything?
the 1996 arcade fighting game Mega Man 2: The Power Fightersjust to make the point come across more clearly.
Kaji revealed that he initially designed Duo as- we can cut out "revealed that he", it does not add anything and it is clear already that the information comes from the staff
Capcom received around 110,000 idea submissions from fans for the game- unsure if you're saying "fans of the game" (not logical since the game was not yet available, and should then instead say fans of the series) or "submissions for the game" (already clear from context)
Three of the Robot Masters (Sword Man, Clown Man, and Search Man) were even given base skeletons on which fans could add features.- not super clear what this means
The Japanese version of the game features the J-pop vocal opening theme "Electrical Communication" and the ending theme "Brand New Way" by the group Ganasia.- did they use another track in the international releases?
Capcom celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Mega Man franchise with the release of Mega Man 8.- as in the lead, this feels trivial without further context. Does it mean anything beyond the anthology booklet that was mentioned earlier?
including action figures, gashapon toys, stationary, and furniture, vinyl record.- you seem to be missing a word or two near the end of this.
much later in 2007- I would strike "much" as this is very subjective and relative.
All right, I think that's all! I'll put this on hold for the customary seven days - ping me when you have addressed the above notes, or if you have any questions, and I'll return to you asap.-- Alexandra IDV 23:26, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
