Does a component of the Mdewakanton really survive in the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe?? If so, how did that little anomaly come about?I left a message on the talk page of CJLippert, who wrote the entry and clearly knows a lot more about Native history than I. TjoeC ( talk) 14:54, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
What is their connection with the Mystic Lake Casino in Minneapolis? -- Atikokan ( talk) 03:55, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Where does this 'Santee Dakota are from South Carolina because a river there is named the Santee river after the Santee tribe' come from? I see this written here and there as fact but who's fact? Just because a river is called 'Santee' after a tribe called the 'Santee' who lived on the eastern seaboard, does not mean they are the same people as the BdeWakantonwan in Minnesota. The american 'Santee' as a name for the eastern Dakota tribes is a fudged pronunciation and derives from 'Isanyati' or 'knives'
Dakota origin is from the 'Bdote', the place where the Mississippi and the Minnesota river meet, Where the name of the town called Mendota is derived. 'Bde Wakan' is 'Spirit Lake'. Americans use 'Mde' for 'lake' instead of 'Bde'.

In the article, a spelling (in letters: Bdewákhaŋthuŋwaŋ) is given as a pronunciation. Any linguist can tell you that these aren't the same thing at all: think about the English spelling of knight, which has no /k/ or /g/ sound. A pronunciation should be specified using the standard IPA system, but @ Oncamera: reverted my edit here: [1]. Perhaps somebody with more linguistic knowledge can fix this.
