Leslie Mitchell says that Bowra went up to New College in 1919, after the war. He mentions two previous visits to Oxford in 1916, one to take entrance exams and the other in connection with the OTC. The assertion that he resumed his studies there after WW1 seems to be incorrect.

As fine as an academician as he was, he glorified Alexander, who today is mostly viewed as a war-mongering psychotic who did great damage to other cultures. He didn't give credit to Egypt's influences to classical Greece in the proper proportion.
