The American Battle Monuments Commission says "It contains the largest number of graves of our military dead of World War II, a total of 17,202, most of whom lost their lives in operations in New Guinea and the Philippines." [ [1]]. Also is it the only American military cemetery in Asia? I heard that somewhere. -- Bruce Hall ( talk) 07:45, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
The American Battle Monuments Commission operates sites in these countries: Belgium, Cuba, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Midway Island, Morocco, Netherlands, New Guinea, New Zealand, Northern Marianas Islands, Panama, Philippines, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Tunisia, UK, USA. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records that the cemetery contains the grave of a Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer (classed as World War I Commonwealth casualty) who died in 1920 (granted it may have been a reburial from another burial ground where maintenance could not be assured). This leads me to question 1941 as the earliest dead contained and to question the apparent assertion (infobox) that only Americans and Filipinos are buried here. Needs checking.
