List of songs recorded by Taylor Swift →
List of songs written by Taylor Swift – It makes much more sense for the page to be songs Swift, a singer-songwriter, has written rather than songs she has recorded. If the page is moved, 17 songs would be removed (the covers of songs she has done), but that would open up the door for all the unreleased songs she has written (and there are many more than 17 of them) to be included, which makes much more sense, as the covers didn't do much for her career, but the five years of songwriting Swift did before releasing an album basically started her career. Oppose the puropse of this list is to focus on what recordings have been released, with popularity (or lack thereof) being irrelevant here.

Comment If we want to include both recordings and compositions, could we use "List of songs by Taylor Swift"? That way nothing has to be excluded. Mysterymanblue 07:12, 21 June 2021 (UTC)reply

Doggy54321: Are the unreleased songs you want to add verifiable in RS? I don't know the situation with Swift specifically, but my experience is that, with most artists, unreleased tracks are mostly tracked by fans, via leaks, live performances, or snooping
ASCAP registrations.

Colin M: Short answer: depends on what you classify as RS. Some of them, like "Permanent Marker" and "I'd Lie", have been covered in reliable news media, but most of them are from ASCAP. Since ASCAP registrations prove that the songs exist (and since Swift writes all of her songs, which is reflected in the ASCAP registration details), I would consider them a reliable primary source. Another type of sourcing I would use is the Lover deluxe edition booklets, as they include journal entries from Swift's diaries over the years. Those journal entries include lyrics to songs with titles such as "Nothin' New", and, since the journal entries are from Swift herself, I would consider them to be another appropriate primary source. I do not plan on using anything further than that, such as live performances and demos uploaded from who knows where, because stuff like
this happens where someone has impersonated Swift. Also, I do think it borderline crosses into
WP:SYNTH territory, as who is to say she wrote those songs? Thanks! D🐶ggy54321(

Colin M: That is a really great option that I hadn't thought of before. There are over 100 unreleased songs, so it would probably overtake the references section (not to mention the main section) and impede on the fact that this list is a featured list. I had originally considered doing an "Unreleased songs" section like what is at
List of songs recorded by Ariana Grande, but the songs would have to be recorded for them to be included (and AFAIK there aren't any demos published by reliable sources), so that is why I went the RM route. I think I'll let this RM go on for the next six days, and, based off of the consensus, I will reassess whether the unreleased songs should go in this article or in a separate one. Thanks for the advice! D🐶ggy54321(

Alternate proposal
I suggest moving to
List of songs by Taylor Swift and include all songs either written or recorded or both, clearly indicating which is the case. Agree that songs she wrote for others are at least as important as songs by others she has recorded, probably more important even. But more than one list seems undue weight to me.
Support per my comment above. One question: if this page does get moved, should the headers be "released", "unreleased" and "written for other artists" or "written" and "recorded"? I personally like the former option better, as a lot of the songs overlap (90% of her discography is songs she has both written and recorded, so "
Shake It Off" would go into both the "written" and "recorded" sections, for example). Thanks for the alternate proposal! D🐶ggy54321(

I would be inclined to have sections rather than one enormous list, although for most things I prefer a single sortable table with a flag column or two. But large tables are a pest to update and this one is already going to be large and likely to grow. Probably the order of the sections would include written. recorded and released first, and unreleased last with subsections. It's good to discuss the format a bit here, in case it calls the whole idea into question. But this discussion can and no doubt will mainly occur after the move if it occurs.

Andrewa: I agree that it is good to discuss the format a bit here. I can't visualize your idea in my head. Would you mind doing something like what I've done
here? The permalink includes my idea of what the format could be, so if you could give feedback on that as well, that would be great. Thanks! D🐶ggy54321(

The inclusion of the song "Florida!!!" creates a syntax error, therefore I added it as "Florida". Is there any other way to get around this?
