Pop on over to Category:Manitoba School Divisions It makes sense to me to create a catagory for each province, and each school division could list links to individual schools as I have begun there. Ask for promotional assistance from your own Provincial Teachers' Union Organization... "Write an informative article about your school" strikes me as a great way to introduce millions of kids to wiki-contribution. Weaponofmassinstruction 06:28, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I am asking to merge List of Ontario school boards into here, as all the content is redundant. I already moved the information over, since List of Ontario school boards had all the boards that were here, and also had more wiki-links that weren't here already in this article. So really all that is needed is to make the List of Ontario school boards into a re-direct, and edit articles to use link to the specific section List of Canadian school boards#Ontario. Once that's done, I would like to better organize the lists better , for instance group by board type (Catholic/public/francophone) and do a better alpha sort (District of X goes under "X" not "D"). -- rob 02:44, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
Prompt for discussion on naming issues and conventions.
A table for this list showing naming conventions would help. One has been started to standardise the naming of school districts - school boards in BC at
talk page List of school districts in British Columbia. The table would show head offcie, region, communities served by the division. The few school divisions - school boards which have articles for Saskatchewan have been used to formulate links in the new
school division template which has been set out by region established by the Government of Saskatchewan Department of Saskatchewan Learning Ministry Of Education.
This school division has two names, the current one on their website has been the one used for the wikipedia article. Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division However it is still referred to as (St. Pauls R.C.S.S.D No. 20). There could be discussion about this naming convention as well. Saskatchewan rural municipalities on wikipedia include their numbers in the wikipedia title. The census divisions go by either number or title, but most commonly in Saskatchewan by number. To date the school divisions have not included their number.
The historical school districts such as Coleville School District No. 3645 are inclusive of their number.
Each new school which has an article on wikipedia such as Sacred Heart High School, Yorkton, St. Volodymyr School or North Battleford Comprehensive High School should mention which school division it belongs to. Each school article should also belong to the appropriate individual school division category as mentioned in the comment above.
As schools in Saskatchewan may encompass either elementary and or secondary education as shown on the table at Prairie Spirit School Division The categorisation of elementary schools, and high schools are more the terminology for urban schools. Discussion invited here as well for categorisation procedures for a comprhensive K-12 school. Where does elementary end and secondary begin? Usually elementary ends at grade 8 and secondary is 9-12. What of a school district school which is not standard as the various school districts listed at Prairie Spirit School Division, how should they be categorised - only in a school district category and not as elementary or secondary or both as school district and elementary/secondary? What about school districts offereing only K-10 or 6-12?
AND there should be another category named Category:School divisions in Saskatchewan which houses Saskatoon Public School Division etc. before too many other articles on school divisions are created. Currently the School Division articles are plunked into the school district category which isn't too correct. IMHO
Done I was bold and named a made this category School divisions in Saskatchewan.
Also related to naming; the article
Public, Separate and Private Schools in Regina, Saskatchewan is the only wikipedia titled article which departs from the Government of Saskatchewan Department of Saskatchewan Learning Ministry Of Education naming schemata. Is this OK, or should it be changed?
Also there was a query about French immersion schools begun at discussion regarding a name convention of: École Foo School with or without the accent.... École Victoria School OR should it be.... Victoria School (Saskatoon) (French Immersion)...In Quebec, the school École secondaire du Versant and Polyvalente de l'Érablière are listed with the accent.
IMHO, would like a second opinion on the above please and thanks. SriMesh | talk 18:38, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
A discussion was begun at Saskatoon Public School Division to place information about non notable schools into the neighborhood placename articles. Should this convention be continued, and for smaller non-notable school districts, the information should be added to the town, village place name article. Or should the individual non-notable rural school district information be added to the school division article? On purusing the British Columbia list of school divisions, several of their elementary schools are surviving AFD. So perhaps some Saskatchewan ones may as well. This article needs to be re-named, to "List of school divisions in Saskatchewan". The reason is that the current name is inaccurate: the term "school division" is the term used in Saskatchewan to describe the various school regions, and "school district" is a sub-division of a "school division". From looking at the page history, it appears the article originally was "List of school divisions in Saskatchewan" but was changed to "school districts" to meet a proposed naming convention for school bodies. However, all attempts at a naming convention failed and there is no current naming convention: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (schools) Unless there are comments, I will change the page name in a few days.
