List of Sony Music artists →
Category:Sony Music Entertainment artists — For a list of Music artists, it would be better to use a category. There is already a category with approximately the same name but for Japan
Category:Sony Music Japan artists.

I think artists who are persons should be alphabetized in this list by their last name, not by their first name. Based on a sample of similar pages in this category -- e.g., List of Columbia Records artists, List of Warner Music Group artists -- it seems that sorting by last name is by far the more common practice, although there is at least one other notable exception in the List of Universal Music Group artists.
A major obstacle is that, according to what I've read in Wikipedia's Help pages, sorting this list by last name (where applicable) would have to be done manually because Wikipedia lists have no automatic sorting capability (see Wikipedia:DOAL) unless the list entries are in a table, and Wikipedia discourages the use of tables where not absolutely necessary for reasons of editability and presentation (see Wikipedia:Table.
Category articles, OTOH, can be sorted automatically, including by surname using the Wiki code {{DEFAULTSORT:Surname, Forename}}. Someone else has already suggested moving this article to a Category format (as seen on this Talk page), and tentatively I would be in favor of doing so or (as someone else has suggested) making a separate category page based on this list. However, there are disadvantages to categories that should be considered before that happens.
Any suggestions on how best to do this would be welcome.
