This page was
proposed for deletion by
Stfg (
talk·contribs) on 30 October 2012 with the comment: The article describes a very limited set of typhoons in a 3-week period in 1853. It is based entirely on a single primary source, of which it appears to be a close-ish paraphrase. It probably doesn't satisfy WP:GNG. Editors have suggeseted deletion on the talk page. It was
contested by

I can't really tell what this article is about. I've attempted to do some minor editing and introduce sections, but that didn't improve it very much. I'm tagging for notability and would recommend deletion. Even though there is a single reference, it doesn't seem to establish notability.

It should probably be renamed to List of Pacific typhoons before XXXX or 1850-59 Pacific typhoon seasons. If other seasons in the same era have as much info as this one, a decadal article would probably be the way to go.

There's no obstacle to creating such an article, and I agree it could be good if there are decent sources. Another alternative yet is to create an 1853 section in
List of Pacific hurricanes before 1900.
The way to contest the PROD, if anyone wants to, is simply to delete the template at the top of the article, and preferably fill in the con and conreason parameters in the Old Prod Full template at the top of this talk page. There's no problem with that, and I'd simply raise an
AfD to ask the community to decide. It would be better to go down one of the other paths suggested, none of which need this article to be preserved. --
