I created the page using the romaji transcription Kiyosi Itô from the MacTutor article. But now I found Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_for_Japan-related_articles and I think the more correct transcription using the Hepburn romanization would be Kiyoshi Itô. So I moved the page. I spoke to a number of people who knew Itô personally. They all concurred that he wanted his name to be spelled Kiyosi Itô. As a matter of fact, he actually had quite a strong opinion about it and sometimes complained when people misspelled his name. He chose this spelling before Hepburn romanization was agreed as a standard. If I get no objection within the next few days, I will revert to his preferred spelling. The article says he was a professor at Kyoto from 1952 until 1979. However, his daughter Junko told me once she went to high school in Ithaca, New York, suggesting that for some time at least he was probably a professor at Cornell University. Can anyone confirm or deny? (I suppose it's possible she was just an exchange student.) — An gr 12:58, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Could use the article here as a reference. Btyner ( talk) 14:36, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
The result of the move request was: moved. Jenks24 ( talk) 21:32, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Kiyoshi Itô →
Kiyosi Itô – This would be consistent with Itô's preferred spelling of his own name, as pointed out by
Hairer above.
