I visited this article in connection with the
Sudan Airways Flight 109 article and feel this one could really do with some fleshing out. There is precious little reference-worthy information available on the internet to do with the airport's history, in particular, so it would be good to hear from anyone in possession of reliable book sources. Questions I would like to address are:-
Runway first constructed before WWII or not?
Did pre-war British Empire services to Kenya and South Africa ever stop here?
Any wartime role?
One of the present terminal buildings was constructed in late 1940s?
Another terminal building was built in the 1990s?
I have yet to sign up to any of the Aviation wikiproject teams but would welcome ongoing assistance from them in building this article in accordance with their standards.

Passenger experience
I found some fascinating (if unflattering) comments (dated 2005 to 2007) at
Skytrax which give a 'feel' of what the airport is like but probably unsuitable for inclusion here without jeopardising NPOV. I also gleaned a nugget or two of information about the airport's history which could be useable. However, I am uncertain whether the website would be regarded as a reliable source and would appreciate other editors' comments. For the time being, I am merely recording the link here, so I can find it again.

Replacement airport?
It will be replaced with a new airport 40 kilometers south of the centre of Khartoum by 2012
