These reports that suggest that "Leo Núñez" is actually "Juan Carlos Oviedo" are thus far unconfirmed. We would need to wait for official confirmation at the least, or perhaps his going by Oviedo, before changing all mentions of his name, moving the page, etc. –

Would
this AP report qualify as confirmation? It asserts plainly that Nunez/Oviedo did in fact admit to "using a fake ID to sign a professional contract;" however, it does not confirm what his actual name is.

Oppose I haven't found reliable sources that he officially changed his name (which probably won't be resolved until his immigration status is straightened out). Lacking that, I see more sources saying he is "a.k.a. Leo Nunez" as opposed to either "formerly known as ..." or simply as Oviedo. If he never plays in MLB again, his
WP:COMMONNAME could easily remain as Nunez.—

I didn't know that template existed. That seems a better way to go about it than my solution. That way, we can keep the birth dates originally reported by "Nunez" (and "Carmona") in prose in the appropriate section. –

Well, MLB.com and a lot of other site list Mar 15, 1982, while some still list August 14, 1983. Will list put MLB's in the article, and the alternative date in footnote.06:33, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: page moved. This was the basic consensus. There was no consensus on using the middle name or even J.C. so those issues should be discussed on this talk page and when there is consensus, move the article or bring it back to RM.

I disagree with the
WP:GHITS reasoning. It's not common to use a players's middle name. Sources were at first calling him "Juan Carlos Oviedo", but more recently sources seem to be dropping the middle name. –

True that some people use their middle names. The thing is, we don't know that Oviedo wants to. I'm gonna have to change my vote to abstain at this point. –

Move to Juan Carlos Oviedo. Alternatively move to Juan Oviedo as a better alternative to Leo Nunez Modified from my earlier recommendation. Prefer Juan Carlos Oviedo, but any form of Oviedo is better than Nunez at this point.—

It may be worth waiting until we find out which name will be on his jersey. If he continues to play under the alias, does Leo Nunez become a his "stage name"? Similar discussion on the
Fausto Carmona talk page. Some addition to the
BLP may be needed to cover eventualities such as this. I would not oppose the move at this point though.

Comment -- I thought this was going to be a version of a "Stage name", but it seems it is a case of personation - presumably entry to USA under false papers. Whatever the outcome, keep all relevant redirects.

Support move to Juan Oviedo per player's admission and trend in sources to use his real name.Changing to abstain until "Juan Oviedo" vs. "Juan Carlos Oviedo" can be resolved. Again supporting a move to Juan Oviedo, no Carlos. –

Comment It seems that either of the "Oviedo" options is better than "Leo Nunez" at this point. I would suggest participants make the best choice based on current usage in sources. Middle names can be added/removed later as needed. Otherwise, are we waiting for a direct quote from Oviedo about whether he prefers "Juan" or "Juan Carlos"?—

Oy givalt. Well, it's not common now, but that might actually be the most definitive thing we've heard on what his common name will be going forward. I just created redirects at "J. C. Oviedo" and "J.C. Oviedo" to here. –

Comment He is recognized as Juan Oviedo now. J.C. is not common for him like it is for J.C. Romero. The sources at first were specifying his full name due to his identity issues.

Support per Bagumba. It is clearly the name he is referred to in the press, and though I'd like to see confirmation that it's his name of choice in addition, we have enough data to make this move without that. –
