I removed the following sentence:
The cite was simply "Sean Wilentz, Kingdom of Matthis." There is a book by this title, co-authored by Paul E. Johnson and Sean Wilentz. On page 10 it makes a passing reference to "the Mormon Joseph Smith, who gave his broken, alcoholic father the honorific position of Patriarch of his new church…." The claim is not footnoted or sourced, however.
