I've been asked by Ambassador John Loeb to make updates to several sections of his Wikipedia page at /info/en/?search=John_Langeloth_Loeb,_Jr.

I am new to Wikipedia and I want to ask your advice on how best to make the updates - I.e. Should I make them directly to the page all at once, section by section, or otherwise. They are integrated into several different paragraphs and are not so easy to describe/propose individually on this Talk page so I'm leaning toward making them directly on the Wikipedia page, itself, but wanted to check with you, the more seasoned editors.

John L. Loeb, Jr. Visitors Center

The John L. Loeb, Jr. Visitors Center is on the campus of the Touro Synagogue in Newport, RI. It was established by Loeb who is descended from the Touro family. Ambassador Loeb also established the Patriots Park which connects the visitor center with the synagogue.* Loeb worked with the Northeast Collaborative Architects (NCA) to design the Visitors Center.**

2.2) John Loeb Sr's wife (and John Loeb Jr's mother) is Frances Lehman, daughter of Arthur Lehman of Lehman Brothers. She was the granddaughter of Adolph Lewisohn and niece of Herbert H. Lehman, who later became Governor of New York and a Senator.

My thoughts here are similar to my comment regarding the citations for the "The institute's first project was to design, build and operate the Loeb Visitors Center on the campus of the Touro Synagogue National Historic Site in Newport, Rhode Island." and your comment about this being better placed in the Touro Synagogue article. At first glance it may appear that the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom and the Loeb Visitors Center are part of the Touro Synagogue but they are both separate entities from Touro Synagogue. You can learn more about the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom at http://www.gwirf.org and the Loeb Visitors Center at http://www.loebvisitors.org. The educational activities around religious freedom that have been achieved by the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom are inspired by George Washington's Letter to the Jewish congregation at Touro Synagogue in 1790 but the work by GWIRF today is very separate from Touro Synagogue in actuality. These are indeed important historical events and objects which deserve space on Wikipedia for their descriptions. However, I don't believe that the Ambassador's article is the most representational forum for that information. To discuss GWIRF is to discuss its purpose: the laudable goals of promoting the understanding of religious freedom and separation of church and state. Those ideas are best communicated through GWIRF's own web pages, or if placed on Wikipedia, within an article expressly concerning the Institute itself. We would like the “like resume” box at the top of this Wikipedia page to be removed. To that end, we have contacted the editor, User:Ɱ, who posted the “like resume” box on our site back in November 2016 to request advice on additional updates, if any, that need to be made to merit removing this box and to remove the "like resum" box if everything looks ok as-is. We have not yet heard back from User:Ɱ so we are soliciting help from others.

Please review our current page which has been extensively updated since November 2016 to see if any additional updates are necessary to merit removing the “like resume” box at the top. If yes, please let us know what updates are needed and any pages that are good examples of Wikipedia pages of living persons that we can model our page after. If we already merit the “like resume” box being removed, please remove it.

I think there have been some good changes since I added that template, yet I feel it still applies. The lead, for one, seems a little too much like a list of accomplishments. It could better read:

He is an advocate for religious freedom and separation of church and state, having founded the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom in 2009. Loeb also founded and owns the vineyards of Sonoma-Loeb Wines, a winery in Sonoma County, California. Loeb has sponsored publications and exhibitions on early American genealogy, family histories, and Danish art. ^{citation needed} Loeb continues to serve as chairman of the George Washington Institute.

Hi Spintendo - thanks for checking in about the paraphrasing in the "Early Life" section. The copyrighted material is on Ambassador Loeb's personal website http://www.ambassadorloeb.com and the copyright notice is "Copyright © 2013 John L. Loeb, Jr., All rights reserved" which is John Loeb Jr., himself. Might this make it okay for us to include this text on John Loeb Jr's Wikipedia page? I will rephrase this text in an subsequent Edit Request but do let me know what you think about this case with the copyright from John Loeb Jr. himself. Loeb was born on May 2, 1930 in New York City. His parents were businessman John Langeloth Loeb Sr. (1902–1996) and Frances Lehman (1906–1996). Loeb's father and his paternal grandfather, Carl M. Loeb (1875–1955), were founders of Loeb, Rhoades & Co.. Loeb's mother was a granddaughter of Mayer Lehman (1830–1897), one of the three founders of Lehman Brothers. Loeb is the grandson of Arthur Lehman (Senior Partner at Lehman Brothers and founding president of Lehman Brothers) and Adele Lewisohn Lehman. He is a great-grandson of Adolph Lewisohn and grand-nephew of former New York Governor and U. S. Senator Herbert H. Lehman. ^[1]

Loeb and his father share the middle name Langeloth in honor of family friend and businessman John Jacob Langeloth (1852–1914). ^[2]

Partially implemented Two changes to Ɱ's paragraph were made:

1. Information on the subject's wineries was omitted.
2. Information on the subject's publications was omitted. Per MOS:CITELEAD, the presence of citations in the introduction is neither required in every article nor prohibited in any article. Thus, the necessity for citations in a lead should be determined on a case-by-case basis by editorial consensus. Two out of three of the references provided for this claim were to the subject's own websites. As this would be considered a controversial subject, inclusion of this information would require many more citations than the ones provided. (See also this COI edit request).

 Declined As mentioned in a prior edit request, this information was not included in the lead. In an article predominantly about the subject's philanthropy and humanitarianism, the mentioning of the subject's wine estate seems out of place, and might be seen as promotional in nature. I'm afraid this claim, if it were to belong in the article, should be backed by references from secondary sources who mention it in a substantial way.   Spintendo      21:19, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
