Semi-Protection
Guys and Girls, we do not edit war over BLP breaching orginal research. If there isn't a reliable source we don't add the information - especially concerning children. Please chill and don't start this up again when the protection expires otherwise I'll semi/full protect for a much longer period.

The Children
This article appears to have become embroiled in an off-wiki situation that has the potential to spill over and affect the children in real life. That isn't what wikipedia is about and I think there is now a clear consensus to leave the children out of the article at this time. The discussion (such as it was) can be found in the talk page history. Please do not add the details of the children without first discussing here and reading up on the history. There is also an OTRS ticket but this is not crucial to understanding of the situation.

I don't really edit much, and I certainly have no connection to the subject of the article, the specific subject of the edit war, or any of the participants involved. I am, however, concerned that WP:BLP does not adequately address this kind of issue. I've spent far too much of my professional life dealing with (US) parentage issues involving well-meaning but (perhaps unknowingly) destructive parents and other "adults" who can't restrain themselves from engaging in the type of snarking showing up here to have any remaining patience with this particularly insidious form of child abuse. The subject LP of the BLP might be fair game within the careful restrictions imposed by WP, but how on earth would anyone legitimately argue that a kid's relationships with family are worth damaging in this context, or in any other presented to the authors of an encyclopedia article? Neither money, nor the purported but private "truth" or "principle of the matter" justifies the content still archived here. This stuff has no place in WP, whether in the article, the talk pages, or the "deleted" talk page edit history. Hear, hear, Spartaz; the action is correct, and reason and decency are prevailing. I only wish that the talk archive could be junked as well, and as noted, BLP does not go far enough in situations like this. Keep going.

I'm not seeing a need for oversight right now, we could delete the talk page and start again but the history such as it is might be useful to explain our actions to future editors. Thoughts, comments?
SpartazHumbug!06:45, 26 September 2008 (UTC)reply
There was really nothing on the talk page before this came up; I don't see any harm in deleting it and leaving a mention about BLP issues as the first topic, for anyone curious.

Infobox
According to the Times-Picayune, in Carney's new gig as "kicking consultant", he is again a part of the Saints' organization and is prohibited by league rules from kicking for any team for the rest of the season. As such, is "free agent" still the appropriate category to use in the infobox? If it's feasible, I'd think the infobox should reflect he's with the Saints and should go back to the black-and-gold scheme, like other assistant coaches. --

I reverted it because the way you did it was extremely confusing. By putting the team as "New Orleans Saints" and his position still saying "placekicker" it looks on the surface as if he is still active.
Perhaps "Free Agent" should be removed, but "New Orleans Saints" should not be present nor should any coaching info be in his infobox. He is a "consultant" and is not officially part of the coaching staff. He's not even technically retired and can still sign with a team next season. This event is only for the body of the article, not for the infobox.►Chris NelsonHolla!21:35, 24 December 2009 (UTC)reply
