First Lady Selects Loomis Chaffee Alum for Inauguration Gown Design
1/21/2009
Move over Oscar, Carolina and Narciso … there’s a new kid in town, Loomis Chaffee alum Jason Wu ‘01.
What once seemed like a “long shot” has come to life for the young designer. First Lady Michelle Obama chose the designer’s floor-length silk chiffon one-shouldered creation for her Inauguration gown. The design featured head-to-toe organza floral detail with Swarovski crystal rhinestones. The First Lady’s statuesque figure complimented the dresses long Hollywood-glamour sculpture, a signature of Wu’s evening collection.
Jason Wu is openly gay. Why in the world would this be omitted from the article?—Preceding

Perhaps because it's a short new article and nobody put it in yet? Also, perhaps American society has reached a point of acceptance where one's being straight or queer is no longer considered a primary biographical detail. It's certainly nothing out of the ordinary, especially not in the fashion industry. But if you have a
reliable source and think it's important it would go in a section under a "personal life" heading, together with where he grew up, who his parents were, where he lives now, and other non-career details.
