Could somebody who knows clarify the meaning of the word "Haw" used in this article? I believe the intended meaning is not covered by the disambiguation page the word now links to. — Pekinensis 03:46, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
--They are most likely referring to the Hui, which are the only Chinese Muslims that I know of. Pravit726 06:18, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
I agree that that is the most likely guess, but shouldn't we clarify that we are guessing? (Also, the Hui are certainly not the only Chinese Muslims.) — Pekinensis 13:42, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
---Haw = Ho = Hui. These are all the transliterations of the Chinese Muslim ethnic group, commonly translated Hui, as it is in Wikipedia. There are, however, various translation and transliterations depending on the technique used. So whereas Hui is the commonly recognized English name for the Hui people, Haw or Hoe or even Ho is the Thai language adaptation which is then also translated into English. Thus, Chinese English speakers would write the name as Hui, whereas Thai English speakers would translate it Haw or Ho or Hoe. In Chiang Mai, there is a monument documenting the history of this group and their migration in to Chiang Mai. This monument used the spelling Haw. Ywamer ( talk) 14:38, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
---Well, "Haw" is not actually equal to "Hui", since not all Haw are muslims. In Chiang Mai, where I live, we divided Haw into two groups. The first one is "Haw-Pa-See( Thai: ฮ่อผ่าสี่)",which means Haw who are Panthays or Hui [Panthay = Pang hse( Shan language) = Pa-see( Thai)]. The second one is "Haw-Pa-Ha( Thai: ฮ่อผ่าห้า)", which means Haw who are not muslim (Hui). Both Haw-pa-ha and Haw-pa-see means people who came from China (mostly Yunnan) by land, not by sea like Teochew, Hakka, Hokkien etc. For furthur discussion please see Chin Haw article. So how much per cent of Thailand's population is actually muslim?
More information to expand the section on Chinese muslims is available at these sources. They, unlike the Malays, have good relations with the Thai monarchy.

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Islam in Thailand's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

The infobox is headed Islam by country and has a map indicating the world percentage of Muslims. Wouldn't a map, and possibly other information, specifically related specifically to Thailand be more appropriate? Mcljlm ( talk) 00:21, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
