Pattern
ive noticed a definite pattern in the 4th generation 2nd stage starters. this is that they all are based on entities from legend or religeon. this is: Torterra = Genbu, Infernape = Sun Wukong or Hindu god mentioned on page, and Empoleon = Posiden. i believe this should be mentioned in each Pokemon's article.
It is simply a coincidence, and even thinking about it presents more confirmation of its dubiousness. Posiden was never associated with steel. In fact, Kyogre would represent Posiden better. Sun Wukong = Goku... Genbu represents winter season as well. A grass type pokemon was based on the chinese constellation of north and winter... --

That's from another fan site and could very well have been photoshopped. Please link to the page the image appears on, rather than just the image, so I can tell where they're supposedly getting this card from. -

It looks good enough to me. But we need other people's opinion of it first. It's no coinicdence that two sites have the same card. The proof looks good enough to me, but we have to hear it from other people as well.
TheBlazikenMaster19:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)reply
I believe the Diamond and Pearl game will both come out this summer, when that happens, then we can all agree on what the English name is. I don't make the rules, I really do agree that what more than one fansites says is good enough. But that's still not good enough, I would find that good enough if I made the rules, but I don't. Hopefully we will be able to find for sure a good proof that's good enough.

Problem is, 71, we need to verify that's what the press release says. The press release could very well be on something unrelated, such as news that Pokemon will have two Abilities at once (rather than one) (NOTE: I am using this as
devil's-advocacy). -

True, but we need to know WHERE exactly on the website it can be found. Official website isn't enough, you also have to give exact link or tell how to get to that page. (if the page would redirect to the mainpage anyway) That's what's needed.
TheBlazikenMaster22:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)reply
I'm referring to the press release (Zaver said he couldn't get to it because he wan't a member of the press). The link means nothing; the press release, at this point, does. -

Why is an official TCG card not enough to move it to its English which is Infernape, its like you guys try to find every little thing to not move it, why?--
DSDark23:11, 20 March 2007 (UTC)reply
Because the card is only visible on a fansite, which could very well have created it as a mockup. If it's on the official site or the official press release, then the name is settled. But until then, it's a bit too soon to change it. Just have some patience - it'll be at the right name eventually, after all. -
JC00:17, 21 March 2007 (UTC)reply
It's on a fansite making claims corroborated by Nintendo. (Note that many fansites are reporting the same thing, often verbatim, citing it to Nintendo.) This is as good as sourcing here gets, unfortunately. I'm going to go ahead and move this. -

We interrupt your bickering for this special news bulletin...
Yep, looks good enough to me. It's highly unlikely a fansite would copy other fansites. And PokéBeach has that card on their site, and they haven't put any fake card in past years.

Goku? Really?
Is it necessary to speculate that Infernape is a 'tribute' to Sun Wukong? True. It's a monkey. That's about as far as the resemblance goes. Arcanine isn't based on Lassie. Turtwig isn't based on the Ninja Turtles. If Sun Wukong had been on fire, lost his crown and other trademark items, I would be more willing to let the comment slide. At the very least, the two references to this similarity should be synced up. One says he looks like Son Goku, the other farther down spells it Sun Wukong.
Whenever a monkey is built like a martial arts fighter, Son Goku comes to mind. In this case it has the extra ornateness and definitely looks like the ol' monkey king.
I've never seen anyone draw the same conclusion from Mankey. But even if some people do think of him, that certainly doesn't mean that Infernape was designed as a 'tribute' to Sun Wukong or even with the character in mind at all. In the very least, the speculation should bumped down to a 'Trivia' section or the like.

(rp from above) Note that the only reason we're comparing Infernape is because of his armor. I heavily doubt Mankey or Primeape has this kind of discussion on their pages. -

Doesn't really matter and please don't call me rocks, DBZR, DB, DBZ, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Z Rocks are all much better alternitives.

Goukazaru is phonetically similar for starters, with the Go and Ka, to Goku. Not much, but we're just getting started. Then, obviously, take his aesthetics- he's a fighting monkey with golden decorations/armour that resembles Sun Wukong's- not to mention his white fur distribution also mirrors clothing. Now, if you even look at his moves, there's stuff that points him out as being like Sun Wukong. Calm Mind is kinda weird for such a wild pokémon, except for the fact that Sun Wukong achieved enlightenment in Journey to the West, and thus an homage could learn this sort of move. Can we call him the Great Sage Equal of Heaven yet?
Darien Shields22:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)reply
Forgot to say, he's also not the first Fire based Wukong homage. Hanumachine in
Megaman Zero (
image and some more info) is pretty similar to Infernape- fire using monkey, but he also has an extending staff which is clearly supposed to be the
Ru Yi Bang. Maybe there's some Goku/Fire thing in Japan that we just don't know about...?

if you can provide a reference, ie "Infernape has the largest speed stat of any other Fire Pokemon, making it the fastest Fire type Pokemon of all the known species so far." Also try and include who it's nearest "rival" is, I suspect it will be
Rapidash. --

I guess. Although that shouldn't be hard to find. Bulbapedia (I site I sometimes contribute to) is a good site for base stats, although you could use other resources because, Like Wikipedia, anyone can edit Bulbapedia... --
PhilltalkEditsReview this GA review!11:42, 21 June 2007 (UTC)reply
Well, seeing how Base stats aren't officially released information, it'll be hard to find any "reliable" sources for this. --
Koheiman05:38, 23 June 2007 (UTC)reply
Yo Losers. Try Serebii for stats. It is the fastest fighting type.
