It looks like this meets the DYK requirements as far as length and timing. The sources look good. I'm not too familiar with Wikipedia's approach to this topic area, but have you reviewed
Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China- and Chinese-related articles? I don't personally see any issues but I wanted to at least do my diligence. Once we figure that out, each hook should also add a little more context for the average reader, explaining a bit more of the who / where.

Shooterwalker: thanks for the feedback. I've reviewed the MOS and think that the article and hook meet the guidlines and would be happy to fix any mistakes. About the context, I agree, so maybe we could change it to something like "...that China launched a military exercise in response to the inauguration of Lai Ching-te as
