Hvannadalshnjúkur → Hvannadalshnúkur – The name of Hvannadalshnúkur peak is misspelled, there is an extra j in hnjúkur.
The name of Hvannadalshnúkur peak is misspelled, there is an extra j in hnjúkur. This is a common mistake, as the names of peaks in Icelandic often end in hnúkur/hnjúkur (literally peak) and regional differences in pronunciation and spelling determine which spelling is correct. Actually the same mistake was made in the Icelandic version of Wikipedia, I also suggested changing that article and it has been moved. But as the correct name is Hvannadalshnúkur and is used in maps and mostly in written texts, my suggestion would be to move this article to use the Hvannadalshnúkur name and redirect to that article from „Hvannadalshnjúkur“ (it's the other way around at the time of this writing). Changed the contents of the article. Öræfajökull is the name of the mountain and Hvannadalshnúkur is its highest peak, not the mountain itself, as could be understood from previous wording. To make the distinction clearer I put together a basic entry on Öræfajökull that partly replaces the Hvannadalshnúkur entry and moved the content relating to the volcano and mountain there. Also I have a picture of Hvannadalshnúkur that I will upload; the previous picture was of another mountain, Hrútsfjall to the NE of Öræfajökull.
The picture in the article is not of Hvannadalshnúkur but of the close by Hrútsfjallstindar. This picture is taken from Skaftafellsheiði and the camera is pointing almost directly west, but Hvannadalshnúkur lies a bit further south. You can see in the rightmost part of the picture Svínfellsjökull, which lies between the peaks. The mountains can seem a bit similar, especially from this angle with the cloud partly covering the peaks, but if you look closely you can easily distinguish them. I can probably dig up some pictures to prove my case but it might take some time, if you are not convinced just google for pictures of either peak if you don't believe me. --Kári — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.157.86.236 ( talk) 23:20, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
