Is there a source (e.g. Bertrand) that specifically states that Bracquenié was a cryptologist? I've wondered about his service specialty. I don't think I've ever seen it unequivocally stated.

I've seen him referred to as a "cryptanalyst" in
this article, as well as in
David Kahn's Seizing the Enigma (from index). The problem is that Braqueni is only given an incidental mention, and there's a risk that his exact role might have been fudged a bit -- people do sometimes conflate signals intelligence officers and cryptanalysts. Although David Kahn or Ralph Erskine are less likely than most to do so!
