This article is written in
British English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, defence, artefact, analyse) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other
varieties of English. According to the
relevant style guide, this should not be changed without
broad consensus.

False-friendly fire?
I vaguely remember reading that one of the problems experienced by the Sheffield was that its missile-defense systems had been programmed to ignore friendly missiles, and the Exocet, being French, was seen as "friendly" (thanks to the expected response to a Soviet attack) and not dangerous. Am I wrong in that? --

Yes it is nonsense, the ESM system on Sheffield, had it not been transmitting on SATCOM would have classified the Exocet as a threat. WCMemail14:55, 4 May 2022 (UTC)reply
