For the meaning of the word Guru, see
Guru. Kul means the domain. Gurukul = the domain of the guru . Nut the terms refers to students living a life of tutelage. They would leave their homes and their loved ones and come and live at the Gurukul for years to learn. Some Gurukuls were and are related to learning music, dance, etc.
