I can't find any mention of why he received MVP votes in 1936. He followed a great, MVP-winning 1935 season, with a merely good season in 1936 with a .307 batting average, so some of the votes may have been from the residual effect his 1935 season had on the memories of sportswriters.

We are still looking for content for 1927, 28 and 36. Maybe we can find some content for our empty season by saying who's records he broke in these four instances and when.--

I believe this article meets
WP:WIAGA and am passing it now. If this article ever goes to FAC, I would like to see who Hartnett surpassed in establishing catcher records of 236 home runs, 1,179 runs batted in, 1,912 hits, and 396 doubles.--
