Good call. I added it because it was in the original stub, but it doesn't look true according to some websites.
(An old discussion, I know.) 48% was wrong, but not that far off. Checking against the numbers at
Remember.gov and our own
United States casualties of war, both reveal 34%. If you use the KIAs (instead of the "total deaths"), its more like 28%. Only World War II was worse in terms of American casualties. --
