The Baltimore Afro-American Aug 1980 and other sources seem to be in disagreement. I'm not sure which to rely upon and it's not clear if he was the first AA athlete at Ohio State and whether he graduated. Some source says he did and the other not. Some forces likely really did not want him to graduate.

There seems to be a lot of disputed information from the
Baltimore Afro-American, Aug 1980. I question the reliability of this source. Some examples of these discrepancies with this source - the mother's maiden name is spelled differently, this is the only source I see naming the mother as white (not mulatto), the place of birth for Charles Richard Patterson is shown as "West Virginia" instead of Virginia, only four children were named but the family had five children, and etc.
