The section "Destruction of Opitsaht" doesn't say much about the increasingly sour relations between Wickanninish and Gray; he didn't just leave, he was effectively driven out. I'm not sure but I think this is in Scholefield in Howay, I'll try and find it; as it's told right now it's a bit of a whitewash, as if it were the Indians and that Hawaiian turncoat who betrayed him; there's a passage in the Akriggs BC Chronicle quoting I suppose from the log about the shelling which could be quoted here, also....and this was a particular group of the Tla-o-qui-aht, which is a modern agglomeration of numerous peoples, so that's not actually worded right; "Opitsaht" is in fact the name of a people, what their own name for their village is I'm not sure; but they were only one of several peoples now combined under the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations band; Tla-o-qui-aht in its "white" rendering of Clayoquot was used back then but as a grouping it included peoples and villages now extinct.....somewhere out there, though, is their account of what happened, which in the interests of NPOV should be included.... @ Pfly: By adding the "citation needed" tag are you saying Kendrick Camp in Nootka Sound was the location of Fort Defiance? If so, what are the sources for this idea? DMBanks1 ( talk) 00:17, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
