Reilly Derrick, Howard Isaacson Abstract excerpt: "After having left the heliosphere, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 continue to travel through interstellar space. The Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, and New Horizons spacecraft are also on paths to pass the heliopause. These spacecraft have communicated with the Deep Station Network (DSN) radio antennas in order to download scientific data and telemetry data. Outward transmissions from DSN travel to the spacecraft and beyond into interstellar space. These transmissions have encountered and will encounter other stars, introducing the possibility that intelligent life in other solar systems will encounter our terrestrial transmissions. ..." A second paper investigated how detectable radio leakage from mobile towers would be for alien civilizations around stars in our neighborhood, including Barnard's star, six light years away from Earth. The researchers say that with a technological level similar to ours, chances are slim, but that some advanced civilizations may be able to pick up on us. Arxiv link:

there really ought to be some discussion of hypothetical extraterrestrial intelligences that are not living, such as for example artificial intelligence or other self-organizing systems that do not meet common definitions of life. it seems plausible that artificial intelligence created by humanity will outlast biological humans in the course of time, and also out-travel us in space. shouldn't we expect the same of extraterrestrial artificial intelligence? therefore it's more likely that we will encounter an extraterrestrial artificial intelligence than a biological one. 135.180.194.177 ( talk) 03:54, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
