What could one possibly say about this, beyond defining it, that doesn't belong in the Extinction article? Jkelly 02:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Is smallpox an animal? 70.58.27.194 09:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
no, it's an Acytotus. I think that was a sort of joke/fun fact, and not really a relevant piece of the article (that is, I don't think small pox has that IUCN status). A1s 20:36, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Could there be an explanation which of those mentioned are subspecies? Because the first one, barbary lion, is a subspecies. Lion is not extinct in the wild, but only one its subspecies. As such the Species header is inaccurate. 85.217.35.50 ( talk) 02:58, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
There is a move discussion in progress which affects this page. Please participate at Talk:Conservation Dependent - Requested move and not in this talk page section. Thank you. — RM bot 18:00, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Are any common domestic animals extinct in the wild? I'm thinking of animals that you would probably not consider rare or endangered when you heard their names, but that only survive in captivity. The article cites an aquarium fish; do more exist? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.139.81.0 ( talk) 04:14, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Please see the ongoing discussion on

Seeing that all the other conservation statuses were lower case and it looks like this one was missed, I tried changing this article to lower case. I accidentally did the talk page rather than the article and that worked, but I can't move the article to match it. Now I can't reverse the change I made to the talk page to make it match the article page again. I will do a requested move from Extinct in the Wild to Extinct in the wild to fix this. Sorry about the confusion. SchreiberBike talk 22:44, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Extinct in the Wild → Extinct in the wild – Following a conversation at Talk:Conservation status#Capitalisation of conservation statuses also linked to above, all the other conservation statuses were changed to lower case. See: Critically endangered, Not evaluated, etc. It seems appropriate for this page to match those. See section immediately above regarding the talk page. Note that that error also confuses the requested move template and makes it appear that the move will not change the name. SchreiberBike talk 22:54, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
